March 4 was a national day of strike and protest in the U.S. under the slogan "Defend Public Education". Recently there have been major cuts in public funding coupled with increases in the price of tuition. In California there was a 33% increase in tuition fees this year.

New School (New York) - The administration building was occupied

Hunter (New York) - Concentration with hundreds of participants, a lot of destruction inside the University, a lot of police infiltration and (allegedly) the Trotskyists. In the end there were 3 or 4 arrested.
